Elijah's first spend the night

Don't forget...Elijah's pool party is on Wednesday at 6:00-8:00 at Inskip pool. Come one come all! Anyway....Elijah spent the night with Austin last night. He has never stayed with a friend overnight, partly because of him not being real keen on the idea and partly because I am extremely overprotective and trust very few people with my kids. However, he decided that he was big enough to do it and he and Austin have been friends since they were 3 and Brian's mom lives across the street from him (that is how they met). So, I called his Daddy and he said it was okay too but If he wanted to come home at 3 in the morning I had to get him. I agreed and off he went. He spends every weekend at his Dad's house so I think years of going back and forth have not made him a big fan of spending the night away from home. He has Austin over here all the time so it was good for him to go there.
It never ceases to amaze me the parents that never even meet the parents of the kid their child wants to stay with and just let them go. I recently had a party for Zane and Elijah had some friends over for him to play with, one of them I had never met him or his family. I went to pick him up expecting to get out and introduce myself so they would at least know what I look like before I cart their child to my house. When I arrived the boy was there with his 12 year old sister and his parents were gone. I asked him "Does your mom know your even coming with me?" He said "Yeah!" I thought to myself , it is a good thing I am not a pedophile or a murderer, but how does his mom know that. It really disturbed me! People wander why their child is taken or abused, but if you can't do better than that then don't have kids. Your one job in life is to keep your children safe and I see so many who aren't doing the best job they can. You have to be 14 in the state of TN to be able to be home alone by yourself or with a sibling. Anything could go wrong. They could get hurt, lost, have someone try to break in etc..... In this day and time you can't trust anyone, not even your Sunday school teachers unless you really know them at home and church. There really isn't anyone else but Austin that I feel comfortable letting Elijah stay with, maybe one other boy who's mom I am good friends with, but that's it. I guess he has begun to grow up, as hard as that may be for me and his Daddy to accept. I will probably always be overprotective with both boys. I am just as bad with Zane, (so is Brian). They are only little for a little while and then their not so I try to slow them down a little. They have a life time of being big ahead of them.
